Susana Solorza
Spanish Teacher
Susana Solorza has been a teacher at HNS for the past 4 years. She is originally from the beautiful city of El Paso, Texas. In 2002, she joined the Holy Name School family as a 6th grader when her family moved to Henderson, Kentucky. She is a member of the HNS class of 2005. She went on to graduate from Owensboro Catholic High School and become a Hilltopper at Western Kentucky University in 2009. She graduated from WKU in 2013 with a B.A. in Spanish and Cultural Anthropology. She most recently graduated from Georgetown College with an M.A. in Education, Spanish K-12. All of these accomplishments would not have been possible without the help of her parents, Bayardo and Susana Solorza and her siblings, Bayardo, Estefania, José, and Emily. She is married to fellow Cardinal alum, John Shelman. John and Susana have been blessed with two of our littlest Cardinals, Santiago José and Luca Andrés. Drawing from her Mexican-American heritage, HNS is all about building a family within our Henderson community. She loves to read historical fiction, and although she is terrified of flying, she loves to travel the world. Susana has reviewed textbooks for publishers in Spain and works with fellow Spanish-language educators to create an environment of continual learning in and out of her classroom. She sees her job as a ministry to serve the Church in forming servant leaders and bringing students closer to Christ.
