Janet Barkley
Music Teacher
Janet Barkley teaches Pre-School through 8th grade Music and 8th grade Drama. She leads the school choir and trains cantors. She has spearheaded events such as the All-school Christmas Program, Circus/Talent Show, Sixth Grade Spring Concert, Eight Grade play, to name a few. She is a member of the Catholic Identity Committee, the STREAM committee, and the Alumni Committee. Janet Barkley was raised in Northern Indiana but has lived in Henderson since 1980. She graduated from Henderson County High School in 1982 and from University of Evansville with a Bachelors in Music Therapy and worked in Adult and Senior mental health for 12 yrs. She changed career paths in 2000 when she was hired at HNS. She received a Teaching Certificate through Murray State University and went on to complete a Masters in Special Education in 2012. She received the Henderson Chamber Teacher of the Year Award in 2004 and Owensboro Diocese Educator of the Year Award in 2016. Mrs. Barkley is happily married to Kenny Barkley and has 2 married sons, Aaron (HNS class of 2004) and Logan (HNS class of 2007) as well as being a proud grandmother. Active in HNC music ministry since high school. Played with Faith Alive for many years and still provides music for wedding, funerals, and Sunday evening masses.
