ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

#1. What is SCRIP SUCCE$$?

SCRIP stands for “subscription receipt”. When you purchase SCRIP, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates or prepaid cards that are used just like cash. SCRIP SUCCE$$ is the name of the program.

#2. What companies participate in the SCRIP program?

There are over 100 different companies participating in the SCRIP SUCCE$$ program through a national SCRIP company called Great Lakes Scrip (glscrip.com). We also have many local and regional companies who have signed on as “SCRIP SUCCE$$ Partners” with Holy Name School.

These merchants want to support our school and in return ask you to support them by shopping with SCRIP at their stores.

For a complete listing of participating companies click here for the list of our SCRIP SUCCE$$ Partners.

#3.Just how does SCRIP work?

Each of the participating companies makes available for purchase their own gift certifi cates or prepaid cards. Each merchant individually decides what discount percentage and what denominations to offer to the SCRIP SUCCE$$ program. Holy Name purchases the SCRIP from merchants at the designated discount. Then when you place your SCRIP order, Holy Name sells the SCRIP to you at face value. The difference between the discounted price at which the school purchases the certificates and the face value of the certificates sold to you is profit for the school. Face Value of SCRIP Certificates - Discounted cost of SCRIP $$$ Profit $$$ For example, you buy $100 worth of SCRIP for D&M Grocery Store. (D&M participates at a 4% discount.) Holy Name buys the SCRIP card from D&M for $96, so D&M, in essence, donated $4 to Holy Name School. You receive $100 worth of SCRIP to buy $100 worth of groceries.

#4. Is it easy to use?

Yes! SCRIP is just like cash. There is no difference between SCRIP and cash when you go shopping, except you are using gift certificates or prepaid cards to purchase your items. It just requires a little bit of planning and a slight change in your spending habits. Everybody has to buy groceries and gas! Our growing children continually need new clothes and shoes! There are many ways for you to use SCRIP to meet your needs. And in doing so you can work towards earning a tuition credit for your family!!!

#5. What’s the catch?

There’s isn’t one! That’s the great thing about SCRIP! It costs you nothing above what you would normally spend.

#6.How do I order SCRIP?

An order form must be filled out for the SCRIP certificates you want. Payment must be made at the time the order is placed. Payment can be made by check or cash.

#7. Where can I get a SCRIP order form?

Order forms are available at the school’s front desk or you can download a printable version by clicking Here.

#9. How or where will I pick up my SCRIP order?

You can stop by the school office in person and pick up your order or you can sign a permission form for your child to bring your SCRIP order home by backpack.

#10. How can I earn tuition credits using SCRIP?

With every dollar you spend for SCRIP, you are working towards earning a tuition credit for your family. Here’s how it works. The first $100 of profit earned from your SCRIP purchases goes into Holy Name’s operating account. Any profit you earn over $100 will be split between you and the school as follows: 75% of any profits greater than $100 will be applied as a direct tuition credit and 25% to Holy Name. You will see your credit reflected on your regular statement twice a year. For example, during the next school year, you earn SCRIP profit of $300. Here is how the split would work: HNS Tuition credit First $100 to HNS $100 Split of profit >$100 50 (25% of $200) $150 (75% of $200) $150 $150 You would have earned a tuition credit of $150 using SCRIP!

#11. How can I find out what the SCRIP earned profit is for my account?

You will be able to contact the SCRIP office at Holy Name at any time by phone or email to find out your current balance. Each time you order SCRIP, families will receive a detailed report on the activity and the current balance.

#12. Can other family members and friends order SCRIP too? Can they assign their accumulated profits earned towards tuition credits for my children?

Yes, anyone can use SCRIP! Grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends and neighbors all can order SCRIP. You can place their orders for them under your name or they can sign up for an account themselves and designate your family as the beneficiary of their profits earned.

#13. What if I don’t use the entire face value of the certificate?

The retailers will give you the difference in store credit or in cash. We encourage you to review the usage guidelines for any particular certificate or ask store personnel when you are shopping at a store. Some merchants use a “rechargeable card”, so your remaining balance will stay on your card until you choose to use it again.

#14. What about rechargeable cards used for SCRIP?

Currently, Kroger and Foodland in Owensboro are the only merchants that report their rechargeable card activity to SCRIP so you can get credit for your purchases. Some other merchants (e.g. O’Charley’s and Texas Roadhouse) may ask you if you would like for their cards to be recharged. Unless it is a merchant that has been specifically identified as such, we recommend that you do not have it done. The SCRIP SUCCE$$ office would not receive credit for any recharges and therefore the family will not receive any credit either

#15. Can I use SCRIP to pay department store charge account balances?

A few retailers allow you to pay charge accounts balances with SCRIP, but generally, most do not. However, JC Penney and Kohl’s do accept gift cards as payment on charge account balances. This adds a bit more convenience to using SCRIP. You can charge merchandise to your JC Penney or Kohl’s account and then order SCRIP certificates to pay the balance. There is less need to plan when you can use SCRIP this way because you know how much you’ve spent.

#16. Will I still earn frequent flier and hotel stay rewards if I use SCRIP to pay for my travel expenses?

Yes! SCRIP is used just like cash, so when you purchase SCRIP to pay for lodging, airfare, and travel expenses, you earn rewards just as you would otherwise.

#17. Do SCRIP certificates and prepaid cards have expiration dates? Some do have expiration dates, but most are 1-2 years after non-use. It is important to examine your SCRIP certificates for their expiration dates. Each merchant will have different policies.
